news: a yorkshire abbey ale coming here soon...
The monks of Ampleforth are reviving an ancient and traditional art of producing beer. The Ampleforth Abbey Beer will be a bottle-conditioned dark coloured and fullbodied Abbey beer in the Belgian style with a fruity, malty flavour. It will be brewed and
bottled by Little Valley Brewery, West Yorkshire under license to Ampleforth Abbey. It has been developed from an ancient monastic recipe originally used by the Benedictine monks in Dieulouard in France. The beer has been described by the beer expert and aficionado Roger Protz as ‘a russet-brown beer with a lively head of foam. The aroma and palate are rich with creamy, biscuity malt, dark raisin and sultana fruit and a good peppery hop note. The finish has great length and is dominated by creamy malt, dark fruit and a lingering peppery, spicy hop character.’The Ampleforth beer will be released and available for general sale in July 2012. We have been lucky enough to already sample this ale at Trembling Madness and it is something definitely worth waiting for. Hopefully we will get some limited edition kegs and a small pre-release, so watch this space! View a BBC clip here news: the latest local brewery - the hop studio
