Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery is Virginia's award-winning Farm Brewery, located on 290 acres in Goochland County, Virginia, USA. Many ingredients are grown there such as: wheat, barley, hops, berries, pumpkin, watermelon. What they don’t grow, they source from local farmers. Plus their own source of clean water. Many of their signature beers are aged in ultra-rare Kentucky Bourbon barrels for up to 12 months and they utizlize some of the finest hops in the world.
For example The Enlightened Despot is an amazingly rich, complex and surprisingly drinkable Bourbon Barrel Russian Imperial Stout. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, and of course the delicious flavor of Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon round out this robust stout. Aged for 100 days in 15 Year Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Barrels, made with 10 specialty grains and containing over 78 IBU of American Hop flavor, this truly is a one of a kind beer. Wow! Well done everyone // We made it through // Welcome 2021, we have practiced // This should be a easy // Bring it On
This year, I said "goodbye mum and thank you", she radiated warmth and love, as long as I live, you too will live; for you are now a part of me; A year that will not be forgotten, thank you for keeping the Madness alive, the business feeds many mouths and independents. But many of us will fall as the mass have swung to the big brands, the growth of Unilever, Amazon, AstraZeneca, the supermarkets. 2021 will bring new challenges, be mentally strong, support people in need, look after family and friends. Be kind. Hospitality will not return to how we know it this year, but we are here eagerly waiting patiently, ready. Love and light, Ian & all at Trembling Madness x
As predicted we came back into Tier 2 with pubs having to serve meals. I believe that York probably only has two weeks at this Tier before being put into Tier 3 so we will do our upmost to get people in through the pub doors so at least you can get out and enjoy yourself for a while. There will be a mass of people visiting town from Wednesday even from the likes of Stamford Bridge and Wilberfoss on the outskirts, both in Tier 3.
We are making an big effort to have the usual festive Trembling Madness offerings, Christmas Ales, Hot Mulled drinks, Christmas foods and Santa Hats. Our two historic buildings are made for this time of the year, they feel cosy and although we can't sing and the staff have to wear masks, we still will have a smile on our faces and do our upmost to make sure you all have a great time. At Lendal we are keeping the ground floor as a shop for December but instead we have created a new space in our basement, more seating, it also has installed an air recirculation system that pulls in fresh air and draws out the inside air 24 hours a day. We will be operating with 22 tables. There are still growler takeouts as well as hot mulled wine and cider. Plus our daily same day delivery service with over 4000 products. Stonegate is far smaller and will only have the 7 tables. Currently we don't have a booking system in place but we will be monitoring it to see if it will need to be added as we don't want customers to be disappointed. We have made a massive effort to keep tables distanced and everything cleaned, it feels so much safer than a supermarket, please do support your pubs and hospitallity businesses. We will lose many pubs but they will come back stronger than ever. We are Northern, friendly and love socialising. Thank you to all our customers this year, it means a great deal to be able to serve you all and offer our services x Lendal and Stonegate opening hours will be 10am until 10pm - our stores will close at 11pm Hospitality are having to sit it out to see what business they will have next week. Will it be a takeaway, shop, restaurant or a table service pub. Our guess is York will be placed into Tier 2 which will bring on a new challenge, there's lots of confusion once again. So how long can you sit with your meal and drink?
We have two menus ready to go: The Tier One menu which consists of Madness favourites to be consumed as and when if you are hungry. The Tier Two menu which consists of low cost "you have to eat meal" whether you are hungry or not. Tier 3 means we will operate as we currently are - retail and deliveries. Whatever happens we have the decorations up, mulled wine, Christmas ales and will try our best to make sure everyone has a great Christmas. Support your pub, its not just a business its a community hub. The horrible thing about Covid has been how it takes away the friendly social aspect of life. The interaction and warmth, underneath these masks there's always a smile. We look forward to seeing you all soon. Here's our action plan starting Thursday. Lendal The ground floor will once again become a shop on Thursday offering around 400 beers. There will be a Christmas section, Traditional ales, Belgium, German, World beers and lots of craft UK ale. We will be open for growlers, takeaway hot drinks, snacks as well. Our pub will be closed on Thursday until further notice. Opening hours 12pm until 7pm - 7 days a week The growler list is available here - it can be purchased for same day delivery / click & collect / walk-in . Stonegate Our store will be open as usual but with reduced hours. Our pub will be closed on Thursday until further notice. Opening 10am until 6pm - 7 days a week Online Our online store will be distributing nationally via courier and doing same-day local deliveries as usual. There's a click & collect service in operation. We will be increasing our staffing with the delivery service as with the first lockdown to keep on top of orders. Apartments Our holiday apartments will be closed until lockdown is lifted. As usual we will refund all deposits and cancel bookings during this period. And here's a reminder below that the whole world is going through the same as us. All managed in different ways, shame we can't come together and find a solution:
In preparation for the inevitable forthcoming lockdowns and destruction of UK hospitality we have set up our survival plan. Our online range has increased and we've handpicked the best lines we can source. Now over 4000 products and something for everyone. With Winter drawing near there's an abundance of fantastic dark beers from Scandanavia, Belgium, Germany, Holland and the UK. Christmas shopping has started and with safety and ease of online shopping many people won't be venturing out to the High Street, everything can be done form the comfort of you're own home. Our Stonegate store will be open throughout if you are going out and we also offer a Click & Collect service, only around 25% of our webstore can be found in store due to the size of the shop.
As we are getting so many new products in daily I suggest signing up for our newsletter, we'll showcase the best products weekly so you don't miss out. We won't be bombarding your in box like many companies. They'll be more special features added to this section so do check back here. Finally we would like to thank all of you for your custom and support through this challenging year, and hope you all stay fit and well. Please do try to support UK hospitality, our pubs have your safety in mind and we believe they are two of the safest places to venture. We are open with zero Covid infections. Our delivery service is ready for lockdown and we will continue to service the local area with our same day drop offs. We have 3 growler bars installed over 2 venues which are already in operation but we will move to offer them for daily delivery again. The offering will be 30 keg lines and 7 cask lines. All lines will be listed under our DRAUGHT BEER section. We will also introduce our isolation esstenials section which will be providing a large portion of our food menu dropped straight to your door, along with milk and other convenience products. A big thank you to all the loyal customers who have helped support all the independent businesses across York. Without you we wouldn't be here today and we hope you enjoy the products and service the team have worked tirelessly to bring to you.
The IPA is the main beer of craft brewing. But at Trembling Madness we love more — more hops, more strength, more intense flavour.
Why is it a Double IPA - well the “double” refers to the amount of hops not just the alcohol. They're also called “Imperial IPAs” , a borrowed term from imperial stouts first brewed in the late 1700s for shipping to the court of Catherine the Great of Russia. They were a dark, syrupy, heavy beer with a loads of alcohol. The Russians liked their beer strong. Now the term applies when a brewer wants to denote an extra strong stout, porter, pilsner, or IPA. Before the Double IPA was the IPA. India Pale Ales were brewed specifically to survive the long journey from England to the British colonies in India in the 1700s — with the naturally antibacterial hops and higher alcohol content helping preserve the beer — fact is many British brown ales were already making the journey before IPAs got there. But as we know India is hot. And what would you rather drink in hot weather, a thick malty brown ale, or a hoppy refreshing IPA? The hopped up pale being sent to India became wildly popular, and British brewers brought that popularity home. IPA was popular until World War I then wartime rationing and temperance movements forced brewers to water down their beers and cut quality. The style all but disappeared until the craft brewery movement in the 1980s started up all those classic beer styles again. IPA became the reigning style of craft beer. You can go way back and thank eighteenth century monks in Belgium for brewing their triple ales — these dark gold, high alcohol beers use techniques that Double IPAs share, like extra sugar for bigger booze impact, and intense aromatics. But the difference is hops. Malt is where beer gets its alcohol, when yeast converts the sugar in the malt into booze. The more malt in the malt-to-water ratio, the more alcohol in the finished beer. To make a Double IPA, the malt ratio is high, but a higher malt ratio makes for a maltier, sweeter beer with more caramel and toffee notes. And the goal for a DIPA is a light bodied, drier brew. So brewers often put in sugar to make the beer less sweet! While yeast can only partially convert malt to alcohol, it can fully convert sugar, giving the finished beer a big booze hit without residual sweetness. The hops are the star of the show. Many varieties are used and they’re used throughout the brewing process, boiled in with the mash and put in after fermentation is done. Wet (fresh) hops, dried hops, hop concentrates are used to deliver that big bomb of hop power so their spicy, piney, citrusy notes can shine. Drinking a DIPA the hops will hit you before any of the beer’s other qualities. Strong hop aroma, strong hop flavor, strong hoppy hoppiness, grapefruit, resin, pine, “dankness,” lemon, and honey flavors. We currently have over 60 DIPA's all within 2 months of being made so you can experience the fresh taste of hops before they start to fade. TAKE ME STRAIGHT TO THE DIPA'S MAN - QUICK

It was all going so well , looking like a good year, takeovers, festivals......... then it happened......... 20th March.........Government lockdown..........Global Pandemic.......Panic.......Fear........Isolation............. We've been there throughout but behind closed doors. Now after almost 5 months we are back, access all areas, great beer, beautiful buildings and welcoming staff. Obviously we're not at full capacity, the bench sharing, socialising and madness bustle is going to be different, we want to keep you all safe and feel safe. So we do have to limit food menus as our capacity is low we need everything to be fresh daily. Fresh beer, fresh food. What we have gained is an even larger range and supply of drinks delivered direct to your door 7 days a week from our new madness warehouse. What we have missed is our 10th Birthday during lockdown, so the second we can gather safely in numbers I feel a big beer festival coming on - when the time is right we'll go to town..........watch this space..........so welcome back everyone we've missed you and thanks for all your support throughout lockdown x
On the 13th August at 7pm host Jonny Garrett (Craft Beer Channel) will go live on Instagram with Garage for a fantastic drink along and brewery tour! Grab this case to drink along with them. The last Omnipollo tasting was a great evening under lockdown, it's great to meet the brewers, chat along and have a vitual tour.
These beers sold seperately are over £43 so it's a good deal as well! The pack contains - Hard Shoulder // A very fresh and tropical Barcelona Weisse, packed with Passionfruit, Pineapple, Coconut, Mango. Soup // New England IPA. Super heavy fruity hop aroma and taste. Cloudy, deep chewie body. Any Excuse // Hazy IPA with lactose and heavily hopped with Ekuanot, Cascade, and Sabro. Citra Escalator // A single hop DIPA using only Citra. Fanghirl // DIPA de 8,2% ABV inspired by an old house favourite resulting in a full-bodied, balanced double. Wave upon Wave // IPA brewed using vermont ale yeast to highlight loral, comet & Mosaic hops
If you don't want to do the tasting we've also had some other great beers in from Garage so check the range online.
It includes probably the best tasting TIPA we've ever sold "Headlines" - this beer blew us away this week, an immense taste sensation reminding us of those a few Cloudwater beers a few years ago when they were at their peak. Warning this beer is 10.5% and it doesn't taste like it !
A modern approach to a traditional beverage is the secret of the success of Vinohradský pivovar. Although the brewery was founded in 1893, production was disrupted for a long time by the Second World War before it ceased. The building mysteriously burnt down in 2001.
Vinohradský pivovar was reborn in 2013, and only goes from strength to strength. Its very popular with Czech locals and we now have our hands on some of there wonderful cans. Freshly imported great Czech beer.
