Waking in the car park at 7am and needing the toilet, damn. Jumped on a bike and cycled to the train station, early start then. We both were a bit grotty, no showers, we had breakfast and drove first to Oostend to a Belgium Supermarket then to Dunkerque to a French Supermarket. Then the long haul back starting with the ferry............ Holiday over :(

We awoke in our lay by and had breakfast in the services. A drive to the Kasteel Brewery, being Sunday there was not much going on, a bunch of cyclists drinking Kasteel at 11am, so supermarket stop and into Bruges. We parked up in a overnight car park and spent the day cycling around, a brewery tour, evening meal and Emma watching me drink Belgium beers (although she had Belgium hot chocolate). We woke and then drove to Orval Abbey in Belgium , a beautiful spot, we had lunch and moved on to the small craft Caracole Brewery where we had a tour and stocked up on beer. Then onto Maredsous Abbey, a large complex, we ate beer cheese, sausage and beer. A drive to Florenville which also had an abbey, the area was rough, the roads bad and the campsite horrible, we decided not to stay and moved on North, ending up sleeping in a lay by...............
Awoke in Italy, breakfast then lunch in a village restaurant. And a wander in the gorge. We liked the tourist leaflet and the way it was written - have a look here. Afterwards we drove through a very high mountain pass and back into Austria through the ski resorts stopping for a big Austrian meaty meal then a campsite in the valley for the night We spent the day in Innsbruck visiting Museums, the Old Town, the AlpineZoo and taking the cable cars up the bleak rocky mountain. The food was the best meal of the holiday, very cheap, spreadable lard with pork scratching in. In the evening we drove to Italy and stayed at Vipiteno Sterzing in the mountains.
Today we went up Rigi on the first ever cog tram, had overpriced rubbish Swiss lunch And a walk back down the hill, then a drive over to the Rheinfalls, Europes largest waterfall. We stayed in the Swiss town of Winterthur overnight........ Luckily we had camped very close to the cable car station at Reideralp. We headed up the mountain to the top, ate our Bratwurst and walked by the glacier, stunning scenery. Back down to Reideralp there was a Brass Band Festival, we didn't stay, instead we headed through a pass down to Lake Lucerne, the camp site in Sisikon was sat right by the Lake, perfect end to a great day......... We started the day at the pool next to our campsite, waterslide and cllimbing wall. Then onto the best castle in Switzerland for a wander. Then a drive to Zermatt, the weather turned bad and visibility became poor, we followed the traffic up the mountain into Zermatt, everything seemed very bizarre, people waved us away, we then realised we shouldn't be driving here. We turned to go back down and then "Follow ME!!" said the police man. Fined 350 Swiss Francs - we left Zermatt and went to a small campsite by a raging river instead...... |
Ian's BlogWell this is our holiday, I've kept the text as brief as possible. It reads in date order so backwards if you know what I mean. ArchivesCategories |
