This 11.5% Triple IPA has a long 4-stage dry hop process, so will be available in October.

STORY
The brewery was founded in 1893 as Měšťanský Pivovar when the Vinohrady neighborhood was not yet part of Prague. At the end of the 19th century city blocks replaced farmland and Vinohrady became one of the largest Czech towns. The original brewery was a contemporary, industrial-style building with a large adjoining garden and its own malt production able to house 600 railway cars of barley. The brewery produced its first beer at the end of 1894 and went on to make classic Czech beers including Velkopražská 12 and a black lager famous for its health benefits.

During the 1920s, film studios took up locations nearby, making the brewery’s garden a lively place. The glory years were short, however, as production was halted during World War II. Following the war the Czech government nationalized the brewery with production returning under new ownership in 2014. During those dormant years, however, the brewing connection remained as the country’s Brewery and Malt Research Institute operated out of the location.

TECHNOLOGY
Because kettles play a key role in the brewing process,Vinohradsky wanted to find one that could help reproduce traditional Central European brewing methods from the heyday in the early 20th century. The brewery’s kettle was produced in Ulm, Germany. Made of hammered copper, the 25-hectolitre kettle is a replica of a model from 1912 and is equipped with traditional direct gas heating.
The standard main fermentation process takes place in open vats and after a week the beer matures in horizontal lager tanks - again typical for Czech lagers. The tanks come from Pacov and Bolzano, Italy.
PRESENT
The brewery evolved from a long-time dream of a group of friends who wanted to make a distinctive Czech lager on their own. The result, a beer made from high quality Czech malt and hops, is a first class lager with unforgettable taste and its own personality. The beer is generally unfiltered and unpasteurized to capture the full flavour and freshness.
The restored part of the old brewery building consist of two parts. The cellars with traditional large arches and high ceilings serve as the area for the brewing, fermentation and maturation of several types of beer. They produce mainly the traditional unfiltered Czech type lagers made from only Czech malt and hops. But increasingly are producing popular special beers like APAs and IPAs primarily with American hops.

Kutná Hora Brewery // Czech Republic

Kutná Hora is an old medieval town whose importance, prosperity and size nearly comparable to Prague at the time and this was mainly due to the local silver mines.  No wonder then that it had established its brewery as early as 15th century which in turn that soon became notorious for high-quality beer. This has remained the case up until modern ages when Heineken bought the brewery only to close it within the brief period of time.

The closure brought about a major frustration among beer drinkers as the brand was being loved by locals and doing very well on the market. Luckily, this was not to last for long as a local entrepreneur restarted brewing at the same historical premises and the brewery is at high demand again. There is a reason: The Kutná Hora 12 is now considered one of the best pilsener type Real Bohemian Lager on the market.
Original ingredients, double mashing, open fermentation and traditional cellars are all parts of the fantastic heritage, therefore this beer is now enjoyed not only locally, but also in Prague and many other European markets.

Švankmajer’s film Otesánek (Little Otik, or Greedy Guts, 2000), an adaptation of a Czech fairy tale [by Karel Jaromír Erben] about a tree stump, a piece of wood that looks like a baby and comes to life and gobbles everything up. It’s got Švankmajer’s distinctive stop-motion animation in it, and is this dark and satirical fairy tale film, a bit like Tim Burton but much more sophisticated and intelligent – it will really blow you away. You won't have seen anything like Little Otik before.
