The past 18 months have been incredibly difficult for all of us within the beer industry.
It’s been easily the most challenging period in Cloudwater’s existence. At times, we’ve wondered whether we’d make it through and honestly, we still have those moments now.
At the same time, the beer industry feels like it’s become more fragmented. The imposition of physical distance and a shortage of human interactions have opened fractures within our community and we certainly regret some of the situations we've been part of, brought about in no small part by the pressure all of us have felt to survive and do the right thing by the teams who rely upon us.
For much of the 18 months, we really missed working and relaxing with industry friends and we missed sharing drinks, laughs and lively chat in welcoming venues.
So, our Together Again initiative is intended to rebuild bridges, bring people together and celebrate the connections made through beer. It’s a celebration of the friends we love working with, the independent venues that share our beer with enthusiastic drinkers and the bonds formed through deep conversation and easy laughter in those venues.
These are some of the first in-person collaborations we’ve been able to brew this year and we’ve worked with seven different breweries on six beers that will be sold exclusively through independent pubs, bars and retailers.
The breweries involved are all smaller breweries who we believe deserve your time and attention. All of them are creating excellent beer with a strong sense of identity and personality, working hard to forge their own paths and create sustainable futures in challenging circumstances.
We’ve worked with them to create the following beers, which we’re really proud of:

All the beers will be launched nationwide on Friday November 12th. 

Table Service
Cloudwater x Runaway x Squawk

Table Beer, 3.2%

A full-flavoured session beer featuring a selection of our favourite New Zealand hops and fermented with Voss Kveik yeast.

Sunset Wilds, 
Cloudwater x Elusive

Red IPA, 6%

Draws heavily on the much-loved Red IPAs of America’s West Coast but features a blend of Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Loral and Simcoe as a nod to both the classic and the modern.

What Now? What Next? 
Cloudwater x Rock Leopard

Fruited Stout, 7.5%

We took the recipe for our popular Stout, Step Up, bumped it up to export strength and added both raspberry and hibiscus to provide a zing of bright fruit flavour that works well with the rich malts.

Honk?
Cloudwater x Wild Horse

DIPA, 8%

Brewed in the West Coast Haze style popularised by breweries like our talented friends at Cellarmaker, this DIPA combines a simple malt grist and West Coast ale yeast with a selection of New Zealand hops, making it light and dry yet bright and juicy, with a restrained bitterness.

Slow and Low
Cloudwater x Donzoko

Smoked Baltic Porter, 10%

Building on our previous collaboration with Donzoko, Dark Skies, we amped-up the strength to create a rich, indulgent Baltic Porter that’s still clean and super smooth, then added a portion of beech-smoked malt to provide further depth of flavour.

When It Pours It Rains
Cloudwater x Rivington

TIPA, 10%

This is exactly what you’d expect from these two breweries. Big, juicy and drenched in hop flavour from a combination of Strata and Sabro.
